Courtyard by Marriott Coming to Trade Centre in Portage, Mich.

TMI Hospitality has broken ground on a new 90-room Courtyard by Marriott hotel at the upscale and mixed use Trade Centre development in Portage, Mich. TMI Hospitality owns and operates nearly 200 hotels in 24 states, including 10 in Michigan.

The Trade Centre development is located at the northwest corner of I-94 and South Westnedge and is owned by long-time local real estate developers Roger Hinman and Joe Gesmundo.

“This development is at the corner of main and main in this community, and we are very excited to be bringing this high quality Courtyard hotel to the market along with our top notch hotel management team”, said TMI Hospitality President Rick Larson. “Our hotel guests are sure to love their experience at this property in this location.”

“The Courtyard is going to fit in nicely at the Trade Centre development,” said Joe Gesmundo. “This synergistic use, and particularly the Marriott brand, has been a desired component of our master plan from the beginning. Marriott’s new design standard for the Courtyard is complementary and consistent with the upscale look and feel already developed at Trade Centre. It will further enhance the gateway to the City of Portage and southwest Michigan.”

Over the past several years, two high-profile and highly visible class AA office buildings consisting of approximately 200,000 square feet were developed on the site and are home to some of the area’s most prestigious businesses, including Plante & Moran, Stryker and Merrill Lynch. In addition to office and hotel uses, plans call for several new restaurants.

“We are excited to play a part in bringing the first hotel to be developed in the City of Portage in several decades. The recent investment into infrastructure and access played an important role,” said Roger Hinman.
